The innovative new David L. Lawrence Convention Center brings an elegant, remarkably functional, and environmentally intelligent facility to Pittsburgh's riverfront. The facility will be the first certified 'green' Convention Center in the US, using features such as natural ventilation, natural daylighting, water conservation and energy efficiency. Stunning, spacious and unique, the Convention Center is a welcoming place where visitor's can feel comfortable and embraced in a space that will triple Pittsburgh's capacity for meetings, conventions and exhibitors. To modernize and expand its convention center on a highly congested urban riverfront site, the City of Pittsburgh hosted an international design competition. Conventional Wisdom Corp developed the facility program used as the basis for the competition, then continued working with the City and its competition consultants to review the qualifications and evaluate the design submissions for program compliance and operational impacts. After completing preliminary design studies, the City opted to demolish the original convention center and to construct the new building in two phases so as to minimize disruption to ongoing convention business.
