Completed in December 2002, the $46.5-million full-service center offers 237,000 total square feet of meeting, exhibition, banquet, pre-function and service space. The center features state-of-the-art technology with high-speed Internet access and outlets for audio-visual connections and multimedia presentations in the meeting rooms and exhibition hall. A complete in-house food service operation is available. There are 1,400 parking spaces, including 189 covered spaces. Other features include a dramatic nine-story glass tower on the outside and extremely wide corridors, ample natural light, and attractive artwork from regional artists on the inside. The convention center is projected to bring in over $80 million annually to the Overland Park economy when it reaches full use in 2006. A beautifully-landscaped, football-field size courtyard adds to the scenic splendor of the facility, while providing a natural venue for a variety of group activities. An enclosed, climate-controlled walkway connects a 20-story, 412-room Sheraton Hotel to the Convention Center. The city offers over 5,000 hotel rooms in addition to the new 412-room Sheraton. Groups booking the new facility appreciate that over 1,000 hotel rooms are within walking distance of the convention center. And a total of 3,000 rooms are within five minutes of the new facility. The center offers big city convention center amenities in a suburban setting in the heart of Overland Park, the largest suburban city in the Kansas City metro area. |
